Prilosec or Omeprazole is a popular drug for treating heartburn by regulating stomach acid. This drug has been linked to loss of bone density, and subsequent reports of bone fractures in the wrist, hip, and spine. The risk increases as the period of time during which the drug is taken grows. Taking a non-prescription form of the medication, such as Prilosec OTC, can be just as damaging to bone health.
