Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant used to treat conditions like anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. SSRIs work by increasing serotonin levels which boosts the brain’s ability to send and receive signals, and in turn positively affects mood. In 1991, the FDA approved Zoloft for sale on the market by its manufacturer, Pfizer.
