It’s nearly impossible to arrive at a decisive  date for “the origin of the bra.” Do ancient greek chest-wraps that women used while exercising–called mastodeton–really count as bras?  If your answer to that question is”Not really,” you’re going to have to fast-forward a few centuries.
Most will agree the evolution of modern shapewear got going in the 19th century. However prior the Victorian-era Prometheuses who focused their brainpower on this engineering challenge came up with the brassiere, there were a few false starts.
