The Washington National are in first place in the National League. The Nationals have a young team with a lot of talent which makes them the front runner to get into the post season in 2012. They key to the Nationals success has been the pitching staff. Both Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmerman have had unbelievable first half numbers. The bullpen has also been very impressive closing the door on opponents late in games. The pitching staff of the Nationals ranks third overall in ERA and SO’s.
Bryce Harper has been the ray of light of the Nationals lineup posting a .282 batting average with 8 home runs. Considering the fact that Harper is only 19 years of age the Nationals have some good times ahead. Harper has filled in nicely in the Nationals lineup and has picked up the slack for players like Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse who have all had some time on the DL this year. Zimmerman and Morse both have less than 100 at bast so far this season.
These are just a few reason why the Washington Nationals have a great shot at the World Series in 2012. With a strong staff, young lineup and great fielding it will take more than a miracle for other teams in the National League to contend.
