If you are planning to sell your car, here is a list of mandatory documents that you need to ascertain, are ready and present– else the transfer to the new buyer won`t happen: Form 29: Notice required for `Transfer of Ownership` of a motor vehicle. This has to be made in duplicate and the duplicate copy with the endorsement of the respective Registering Authority to be returned to the transferor immediately on making entries of Transfer of Ownership. Form 30: Application for intimation and transfer of ownership of a motor vehicle. This also needs to be made in duplicate, if the vehicle is held under an agreement of Hire – Purchase / Lease / Hypothecation. A chassis number impression is compulsory on all copies. Form 28: If the buyer is from outside your home state, then this form is required. This form of application for `No Objection` and grant of certificate has to be made in triplicate, the duplicate copy and the triplicate copy with the endorsement of the registering authority to be returned to the owner of the vehicle. Now the registering authority in whose jurisdiction the vehicle is to be removed, respectively. Insurance: A valid insurance certificate is required. If not comprehensive, at least a 3rd party insurance is mandatory for transfer. PUC: A ‘Pollution Under Control’ certificate is also mandatory for transfer of ownership. Delivery Certificate: Once you have received the monies due to you, do take a ‘delivery receipt’ from the new owner, so that you are absolved of any liabilities after selling your vehicle. The paperwork may seem cumbersome to you but a stitch in time saves nine, and is required for completing all formalities so that in the future there is no confusion and liability on your side!
