Nursing homes have been a hotspot for the spread of infection for many years, despite the best efforts of nursing staff. This issue became even more acute immediately following the initial outbreak of the COVID pandemic, and continues to be a major cause for concern.
The COVID pandemic not only increased the risk of illness and morbidity of nursing home residents, but the stress, strain, and spread of infection among staff also skyrocketed.
Nursing staff doing all they can is simply, and obviously, not enough to combat the spread of disease. Nursing homes need to see infrastructural change, significantly increased support, and additional, hands-on training to implement improved methods and procedures for care, not only of residents, but of nursing staff as well.
