Every color has a connotation in the human mind. For example, yellow increases metabolism. Humans associate yellow with food and hunger. For marketers familiar with color psychology, this means food vendors should use yellow in their decor.

Using color psychology in marketing takes several steps. First, marketers need to know the connotations behind every color. Next, they have to be able to apply the connotations to their situation. Keeping with the yellow example, yellow is not a popular color in homes. Not even in kitchens. This is because only 5% of people surveyed like the color, no matter its connotation.
