I was doing some research on United States Wedding Statistics as I was preparing some wedding planning resources for my 2021 and 2022 wedding couples, and I was really surprised by what I found, especially when it comes to the number of weddings that happen in the United States every year.
The following United States wedding statistics are drawn primarily from reports produced by SoundVision.com and Wedding.Report. Additional information for this infographic was sourced from The Newlywed Report by WeddingWire.com.
Here are the top United States Wedding Statistics: 2.3 million couples wed every year in the United States. That breaks down to about 6,200 weddings per day! When you consider the fact that most weddings occur on a weekend (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday), that’s an even bigger daily average! For locations with pleasant weather year-round, we can expect to see more weddings every compared to climates with cold and harsh winter seasons, as well.
On average, a couple invites 178 guests to celebrate their wedding. The average bride is about 25 years old when she marries, while the groom is slightly older, averaging almost 27 years old on the wedding day. COVID-19 Impact on United States Weddings The coronavirus pandemic has changed so many elements of the world economy, its no wonder the wedding industry was affected, too.
Broadly examining the wedding industry, I found that 21% of couples postponed their 2020 wedding due to coronavirus-related circumstances. 41.5% of 2020 weddings were moved to 2021, while only 7% were canceled altogether. Finally, 30.5% of couples managed to keep their 2020 wedding date.
Other Interesting Info: I also learned some neat facts about the top wedding locations in and outside the United States. The most popular wedding destination on the globe is Istanbul, where 166,000 couples wed annually. In the United States, Las Vegas is the most popular city to get married in, hosting 114,000 weddings every year.
